This story speaks volume, indeed. Almost 20 years ago, a young Hungarian entrepreneur in his twenties, Gyorgy Berkes had a vision - usually a good Cinderella story begins like this- and a passion for bikes.

He started small, trading parts and importing ready made bikes from Italy until his company has demonstrated more and more endurance in a wild racing world of bikes.

Year after year, the company went thru different transformation until 1998 when it s brand name Gepida, was acquired by a major player bicycle company, Olympia Kft (Ltd).

After securing all the necessary European Union certifications, ISO standards, by the mid of 2005-06, you would find Gepida bikes on the streets of a number of European countries, including the "superpower" The Netherlands, then among others Belgium, Germany, Russia, Sweden, Romania, Finland.

As a result, the Gepida brand has become increasingly well known and respected throughout Europe.

Despite the difficult global economic climate the recent years, the company continued to grow in this year thanks to good planning and, of course, a degree of good fortune. Gepida exhibited in Taipei for the first time in 2010.

In the long-term, the company's future's goal is to export outside Europe, hence North-America and Canada, in particular Vancouver may play a key role. In the light of the ebike lovers in Vancouver, the favorable climate, its well-known environmental commitment, this city is a natural destination for Gepida. Mr. Berkes and his company are currently in a phase of considering their exporting options and conducting their due diligence to find a respected distributor for their products.

Consequently, take a moment to visit their website and watch their promo and let us know what you think. Maybe one day, we can take a ride on a Hungarian ebike to get to work somewhere in downtown Vancouver.
